Of the following TV shows (random examples), even if you enjoyed them, how many portrayed men as strong, independent, and incorruptible:
Friends
Seinfeld
Big Bang Theory
Modern Family
Brooklyn Nine-Nine
The Office
Gone are the days of Bonanza and Perry Mason. The only men allowed to be strong on TV these days are criminals (Dexter, Breaking Bad).
My biggest annoyance is the superhero shows. Can you think of any male superhero currently on TV who: 1) Doesn't have a support network, 2) Isn't complaining about how tough his life is, and 3) Isn't constantly on the verge of losing everything to an unstoppable long-term foe?
The only superheros who are allowed to be strong on TV is female superheroes, but only in their first season (e.g. Supergirl), when they're trying to build an audience.
But now I feel like I've made your point, because I thought that list would be longer. I've watched other shows that I personally enjoyed, but, of the ones I could recommend to others, most of them are from earlier decades, just as you say.
Let's not forget about the propaganda.

I have never watched any of these shows. Anything past the 80s is crap
I mostly agree. Of the newer shows I listed, I only watched one, and that was partly because I liked one actress involved. :-)
I wouldn't say that everything after the 80s is crap. Here are a few newer shows I have no problem recommending:

My wife is a stargate nerd and introduced me to SG1. Amazing show. Teal'c is the man
