I remember when this was originally brought up. Lefties tried to spin this sob story about how he misses his first wife who died, so he gets a bit too intimate with women or something stupid like that. Doesn't really explain the children though. And obviously it's complete bullshit. But most lefties probably believe something like that anyway.
