I fell for it. I'm not ashamed to admit that. This shit looked bad. Even if it had actually had a 3-5% mortality rate this would have been the biggest happening of our lives (for not artificial reasons that is).
I showed those videos to people back when the media was still telling us that wearing masks was actively harmful and Reddit was banning people for suggesting a cloth face covering might be a good idea.
My wife is a teacher at one of the first few schools to have kids test positive. We were doing the math based on the best data I could find, trying to calculate at which point she should consider burning all her personal days to try and miss the peak of the wave.
Now, I will happily admit based on what we know now I was 100% wrong. This whole thing was pure unadulterated bullshit, and we have more than enough data to show that. It's still a disease that, in a few percent of the population is a hell of a lot worse than the flu, but in no way does the reality of this justify the measures we have and are taking.
I was also never behind the gestapo BS. I initially supported the official recommendations that businesses go remote where practical. I have no problem with CDC recommending masks or distancing if they had data that it works. I thought mandating things, in addition to being unamerican, was extremely counter productive. If we had actually needed the masks people would have died because of the mandate.
I can't imagine I am alone. The media is full of shit now, but they were then too on the opposite side of the issue. Many of the people questioning the shutdown now would naturally be the people to question the virus initially.
