I was an early 90s baby. So I got to enjoy the late 90s and early 2000s as a kid.
It feels like things really took a dive around 2007 or so, and it wasn't due to Obama.
It was due to technological changes. It's when people just began getting touch screen devices. First was the iPod touch.
We all still had flip phones with keyboards. So just text and call, maybe a simple game like Tetris.
So we didn't act like zombies everywhere on the internet all day long.
We didn't state at our phones when on a walk or eating lunch with a friend.
And even before cell phones were popular when I was a kiddo, I remember my dad's pager.
Back then, to be social, you had to talk on the phone and leave your house!
Back then, no way in fucking hell corona lockdowns would've worked.
People would've literally gone fucking insane. But we've all gotten so used to socializing through digital means, and it isn't health!
Going out and seeing new people is healthy.
My generation likes to use dating apps to find one another... But my sister who is also my age got married a year ago, and told me the best advice as I'm a single man.
She said "just go out and do what you love. You'll find someone with similar interests and go from there", and she's right.
So yeah, I think things took a serious nosedive between 2007-2012.
It was politics, it was everything.
Politics changed because our tech changed.
I graduated Highschool in 2013.
Back then, NOBODY talked politics as teenagers. Nobody gave a shit!
Now, try to find a 12 year old who doesn't have strong political opinions.
Because of the the what social media has become. A place to be negative, be hateful, be butthurt, and angrily debate things that trigger you.
Social media is terrible. I'm convinced the ONLY way to go back to the good ol days is if we were attacked with an EMP, survived whatever war it is, and didn't have internet for multiple years.
. It's really internet more than anything that's destroying us.
It's destroying worldwide individual cultures, forming us all into one mess.
Less individualism
Less freedom.
Hell, the things I used to get away with as a teen in the mid 2000s... I could only IMAGINE what punks could've done for fun in the 80s and earlier, when you weren't on camera everywhere you go!
Things have gotten too advanced, to where our tech is a weapon used against us.
Cancel culture can't exist without the internet for the most part.
Little kids today who post some off color joke night be ostracized by society in 45 years in 2065!
The Internet has fucked us, and now, if an authoritarian regime ever comes to USA, they will have all the data they need to label every single one of us, and put us into groups like Germany did Jews.
All fucked up man. I love the internet like anyone else, but I also wish it would die.
I hate how regulated it has become, and simultaneously hate how people virtue signal so much and think there is only one right answer.
There isn't. There ARE wrong answers, to an extent..
Like walls don't work... Is false.
But to say they are GOOD is subjective, because to a liberal, mass unchecked migration is fine
