You're not supposed to trust it, you should verify and learn how to utilize the protocol for a good cause. Take http for instance, another protocol that's been around for decades and powers almost every website on the internet. You don't need to trust http, or even know exactly what it does just to use it.
You move to a region where the power isn't out and where internet is still working, and on your way there's no need to worry about road pirates because they don't know if you have crypto, and even if they knew they wouldn't be able to steal it from you.
If power and internet is out worldwide, there's bigger problems ahead anyway. And in that case I would get far away from any populated area because people will quickly start to rob each others there.
I highly recommend The Modern Survival Manual: Surviving the Economic Collapse by Fernando "Ferfal" Aguirre. He talks about surviving the 2001 economic collapse in Argentina and there's a ton of practical advice in there.
Crypto is decentralized tho, out of all digital protocols, services or assets crypto would be the last thing to go down, because it's spread across the globe unlike any other digital system.
It would take a global power outage, and it must also destroy all generators, otherwise you could just fire up any old gasoline car to get power. Internet is also hard to take down nowadays. There's many networks available, 3G/4G/5G, fiber, DSL, satelite links.
There's even satelites in space running nodes which you could connect to in order to access your crypto. In space everything runs on solar, and the sun is always shining so what could possible destroy them in the event of a global power outage? aliens from Mars attacking earth? Wouldn't we have bigger problems than medium of exchange, in case that happened?
It depends what kind of crisis we're dealing with. Right now a global totalitarian communist state appears to be the biggest threat. This means:
They will ban cash leaving only bank money (or maybe social credit) or alternative digital assets as medium of exchange.
They will confiscate gold, silver, weapons, canned food or any physical item that could be used for independence and self sustainability
They will strengthen the power grid, and electrify all forms of transportation, buses, trains, etc... This is the only thing commies are good at, because electricity from a centralized grid gives them control by dependency.
This means, that you need something that you can hide from the government. Now crypto might not be the ultimate answer here, it depends on your skills, and your current situation. Maybe you have something else of value, something you can hide very well, or maybe you're skilled with guns and live in a very rural place, then they might not bother to deal with you.
How would one spend or trade crypto in the event of an extended internet or power blackout?
You are not supposed to ask those kind of questions.
That's why I dont trust it.

The only reason I opened this thread was to make the same comment.

You wouldn't be able to.

I don't think he knows what the Tower of Babel story was actually about.
Water is most important, you can survive weeks without food but not water.
Hey guess what? You can't use Crypto if there's no network or electricity to connect to smh.

The new currency will be useful items. Not crypto or anything else.

When the dollar fails you will be happy if your eggs are not all in one basket.
But you knew that and would rather act like a jackass than saying what you think.
