I don't disagree, especially when your kids are young (like the ages of your children). Truthfully, I am not even a big fan of the heavy reliance on technology in schools. I prefer the basics.

My boys are older now. One is graduating college soon, the other is in high school. Both are great students, athletes, and doing well. We did not get them cell phones until almost high school. Once they start doing so many activities on their own or with friends like camping, going to amusement parks, going to play pond hockey, going boating, driving a car...having a phone is a convenient to reach them. I can't imagine waiting until they are eighteen to get them a cellphone (and I am someone whose husband has never owned a cell phone). Maybe you will be able to hold off until your children are eighteen, but I kind of doubt it. There will come a day they will be in middle school or high school and they will probably want some independence and maybe a phone, or an ipad or a computer. Not at eight and twelve, perhaps, but just wait...

I am going to predict right now that your children will have these things before they are eighteen and you will probably gladly support it and think it is a great idea. :)

But kudos to you for discouraging it now. I did the same thing.
