The human collective is designed to survive as a whole block. Any deviancy is anti thetical to the survival of the species. Imagine if you lived in a tribe of 100 people and 12% of your population had no interest is the opposite sex or reproduction. That's a problem.

Now in the modern era we have an excess of humans, so nobody really gives a shit if you don't want to reproduce. So we just ignore the deviant and carry on.
