They are using the minuscule death rate of the “reference group”, which is people aged 5-17, to scare people with the ratio to a group that has basically zero deaths. Assholes.

Translation, they are using a logarithmic scale to make the claim that you are "40 times more likely to die!" Than a healthy child between the age of 5 and 17.
Basically, for every 1 child between 5 and 17 who dies, 40 people the age of 50 die, but people over 50 survive 99.87% of the time they are hospitalized, whereas a child survives 99.9965% of the time they even get sick enough that anyone bothers to test them.
