In the Senate, bills need only a majority vote to pass, but they can’t get to the floor for that vote without sixty Senators giving their thumbs-up.
That means unless Mitch and nine other Republicans agree, everything stops cold when it reaches the Senate, unless the Democrats decide to rewrite the rules at the beginning of the next session to remove the filibuster altogether. Right now it just doesn’t apply to judicial appointments, where a simple majority vote is required for getting those nominations to the floor.
So if the Republicans are cooperating then we’re in some deep shit here.
