I was there for a month. There's some good food, but the sightseeing is pretty lame. I'm in to history so the age of things is cool but they don't maintain anything, shit is broken everywhere.
The worst is the absolute lack of civility. You will be pushed, have to keep a look out for pickpocketing, and green lights don't mean it's safe to cross the street. Hands down the thing you will hate is how disgusting mainland Chinese are. I saw people squat and shit in the street multiple times. Their public toilets are worse than the worst gas station bathroom you can imagine. Also the internet is so censored that it barely works, but that's pretty much the case here now.

I went to Beijing almost 20 years ago, they had the worlds largest McDonalds at the time and an ice cream cone was 8 cents. That was cool. The Forbidden City was interesting, and there was a huge beautiful park nearby that charged an entrance fee to keep out the riff raff.
Not too much else to see there. The food will give you the runs.
