So much hate for Reagan because of the amnesty. Sure, it was a massive cockup, but back then parties did do grand compromises, and they were often upheld. The Dems were more conservative than now and the idea of whites becoming a minority wasn't really seen as plausible by many. He was a great POTUS, despite this cockup. It was 12 years of Bushes and 16 of Dems that made demographics disastrous, not a one off mistake.
Reagan was not pro amnesty. The level of stupid some of you go to bash Reagan over amnesty is out of context. Reagan compromised with the Democrats so we could legally build the Wall. What Doomed California was Federal judges repealing prop 187 which prohibited illegals from getting state benefits.
