We can't have discussions with them anymore because we no longer agree on the truth. We used to be able to have arguments in good faith because we had different paths to the same goal, we no longer have that.
You make a really good point. When I engage with them, I always try to start with some seemingly obvious truth that they can't disagree with. Obvious things like "killing people is bad, can we agree on that?"
Those discussions are not designed to sway the Leftist but rather the audience.
Yeah and even that tactic is starting to fail. Crowder's "Change My Mind" used to have people who disagreed sit down and try to rationalize why they disagree. They no longer even try, the only people who sit down with him now basically say "yeah I agree with you except on this minor point" and then they won't stand up for that anyways. Public discourse is basically finished at this point which is a big part of the reason we are in the situation we're in now. I miss the days of speaking to someone totally different and having that experience of having my mind expanded and walk away saying "wow I never considered or thought of it that way before..."
The left screams about police reform. It's long past time for teacher union accountability and reform.
Teachers union reform, if done properly, leads to public sector union reform.
Public sector union reform, if done properly, leads to a discussion about campaign finance and conflicts of interest for public officials.
That discussion, if allowed to be done properly, addresses the foundation of our corrupt system.
So I vote yes, let's have these discussions.
