Avast has been going to shit since they bought and merged with AVG.

AVG was the shit standard for worst AV software.

OTOH, I'm surprised Micro$oft didn't think of this first and block it as part of Windows defender. BTW MS is one of the nastiest, most arrogant, dishonest, asshat, left leaning corporations there is.

Why on earth are you people still using Windows?!

Back in 2015 when I saw the preview of Win10 at work, I went home and ditched windows altogether. I've been using Linux Mint since then and I can say that life is much EASIER, by not using MS products. The whole "it just works" trope from MS is a lie. Its actually more applicable to Linux these days.

Although I have to admit, the improvements made to Ubuntu make it really tempting to switch. Either one is a helluva lot LESS hassle and even run faster than the bugfest crap from MS.

I have put both Mint and Ubuntu on laptops to play with. I always end up running into problems I can't get past after a few weeks. I am not a coder and it is just easier to deal with Windows. Most of my computers I just use Windows defender, I just wanted a little extra protection on this laptop because I do banking with it.

What kinds of problems?

Have you tried googling the error messages? There is a huge community out there willing to help.

It's been a couple of years, but seemed to always end with it locking up to the point it was unusable. Both times I ended up formatting and just putting Windows back on. I was able to fix some early problems with google then copying and pasting code. But I would always run into problems I couldn't fix. Next time I get a new computer I might put it on the old one it replaces.
