wonderful to hear testimony passed down, your maternal Grandfather and hundreds of other small boat owners saved thousands of lives that day! I teach my 17 year old about the horrors of WW2 and the impact of being part of the volunteer force during the Blitz had on his grandfather who sadly had passed before he was born. At 19 he was a lens crafter and put to work in a factory repurposed to manufacture of sights for artillery. At night they were given the job of assisting recovering dead and injured after the bombing for that night was over. PTSD was unknown but he suffered from it for a lifetime. His sweetheart my mother who was 17 was sleeping on the platform of the local underground station with her sisters (the only safe place to be) It was 80 years ago... a blink of the eye in historical terms but so important for the young to learn of. About where (national) socialism leads.
80 years is a blink of an eye. People thought WW11 was the war to end all wars but it was not. The 50's and 60's were a time of optimism and growth in both America and Europe. Build back better had real meaning in Europe. Now I really don't know what to think. I think we have some real wake up calls in our future. Hopefully we are as resilient as our ancestors.
A perfect way to end this extremely important conversation between two elders of the thinking right wing... perfectly stated. Great chatting with such a dialled in mind!
