Most medieval kings were just as statist, corrupt and bloodthirsty as our politicians today and the threat of excommunication and eternal damnation was enough to keep their power in check. The world now would actually be in a much better place if the true Catholic Church actually exercised power and excommunicated people like Biden and Pelosi.
What you don't understand is that Marxists hijacked the Church in the EXACT same way they've hijacked this country. Only 100 years ago you had popes like St. Pius X talking about how modernists should be "beaten with fists" and now we get Bergoglio who stains sacred altars by putting pagan Pachamama idols on them. Either way, Christ promised that the gates of hell will not prevail against His Church, it obviously means it would be tested by all kinds of threats both external and internal. The modernist post Second Vatican Council popes have tried to destroy the traditional Latin Mass and all the traditional rites and they haven't succeeded and attendance rates for the traditional Mass is much higher than their Novus Ordo "mess." The Catholic and Orthodox Churches are the only churches with Apostolic succession and outside of it there is NO SALVATION. Period.
