After I lost my pipeline union job (thanks Joe Biden) I started working pizza delivery to slow my burn rate until I find something that has wages based in reality. All the kids there are in an 80's music discovery phase. One 17yo chick has been serenading me with Guns 'N Roses because she's just finding out about it. Now we're on to singing GnR back and forth to each other. Everyone of them lament contemporary music. I seem contemporary music as holding our kids hostage. There's no way the unending hip hop phase should have lasted this long naturally. The kids think modern music is shit compared to the stuff I grew up with.

. It's a fun job.....if the pay wasn't such shit. Thanks Joe Biden.

Today's musician has the equivalent of a studio in their bedrooms, but none of the talent, drive, and desperation that 80's artists had.

I'm happy to see this generation is starting to understand this.

coolhandcuke 10 points ago +10 / -0

I love cheesy eighties music. The weird thing is that sometimes I think it's a "classical" station I've tuned into in the car, and it's actually the college radio station. Today I heard "Electric Avenue" and "Genus of Love" on it. Good times.

Pede3 3 points ago +3 / -0

The edgy 20 something's working at FYE were playing a They Might Be Giants CD recently and acting like Particle Man etc was new music. The dude at the register had a price sticker on his forehead with 6.66 on it. It was a weird experience.

Did babes ever answer the door in their birfday suit?

3
icockmyglock 3 points ago +3 / -0

I had a late 30's/early 40's cougar answer the door in a towel fresh out of the shower. I got the keen sense she was expecting a pimply teenage boy, not a middle aged laid off pipeline working. The towel was draped across her breast just below the start of her areola. I offered to lay some pipe for her, but she was having none of it.

I've had several in robes, under wear (more common than you think, T-shirt and panties usually), and swim suits. Close enough I guess. Lol

To me, Van Halen's Hot for Teacher is the ideal video for the 80's, captures everything about it perfectly

4

I remember all the 30-something female teachers would always slyly grin when asked if she had seen the video. Always. It kinda turned me on.

2

I kek'ed, but also sad. Good times are over; there is no chance in hell that such a video could be published today, because politics.

You'll never get back the spirit of the 80s unless you get back the economic systems which allowed America to flourish which led to the 80s.

1

You don't understand what I wrote. I very specifically said "economic systems which allowed America to flourish which led to the 80s". Very broadly it means including 70s economics, but I would argue largely stem from post-ww2 in the 50s.

Fine take God and societal norms out of, self mutation is NOT healthy.

12
randomusers239874 12 points ago +12 / -0

Yup, this is one of my big complaints. Every time you see someone argue about this stuff in the public, the right winger always has to invoke Jesus or God, which is complete bullshit. God and religion have absolutely nothing to do with mental health. Most conservative attitudes are actually healthy from a purely evolutionary standpoint, no religious justification necessary.

10
Ebbie8708 10 points ago +10 / -0

Confession: I am one of those people who think trans is against God. If God wanted you to be a man, he would’ve made you a man.

The biggest issue with them pushing this trans BS on kids is that kids take it as the only way to get some social media points. Likes and retweets are the most important thing or virtual signaling wouldn’t be a darn thing.

I couldn’t imagine being a kid these days. It’s one thing when it’s just your family and class mates to try to impress. Now it’s bazillion people online and these kids don’t realize they will never met and their opinion doesn’t matter to them.

6
Rerun1Central 6 points ago +6 / -0

everyone knows it's against God. Even the trannies know this and freely admit it. Trannies are mentally ill. They can be cured and are good people with mental disorder. allowing them to act out isn't helpful.

4
ImFinallyNotAnAlt 4 points ago +6 / -2

On the contrary; it was our rejection of God that landed us here in the first place, just like israel thousands of years ago (it existed before). There is nothing new under the sun and man was made to worship God. You see the lunacy around you? That’s man left with his own morality which of course he can make up. Every man’s way is right in his own eyes and boy does man love sin more than God.

God will judge us all by his commandments on judgement day and if we are not trusting in Jesus Christ as our atonement we will face God’s wrath in eternal torment. Repent and believe in Jesus as the only one who lives a righteous life and payed our sin debt on our behalf.

That’s why Jesus has been so influential over the course of history, why his name is greater than every name, why we split our human timeline by the years he was with us. He literally split human history. He is worth knowing.

-1
randomusers239874 -1 points ago +2 / -3

Christianity is not the first religion, last religion, has never been the most popular religion world wide, and was only influential in the western world. There is literally no objective measure that would indicate that Christianity is the correct religion, so please keep it to yourself.

6

randomusers239874 -2 points ago +1 / -3

2
ImFinallyNotAnAlt 2 points ago +3 / -1

I think the Bible proves itself. The scriptures were written hundreds of years apart and they fit together like a glove. The book of Isaiah was written some 600 years before Christ and foretold his coming, his death, John the Baptist, etc which you can read some 670 years later in the book of Matthew. The prophecies and the idea you can have men writing an inerrant book in unison from different lives is a miracle. Did you know God spread israel out to be under the rule of the gentiles for millennia and just gave them their home back in Israel and you can collect this from the Bible?

Anyways, apart from the gospel I can tell you this until I’m blue in the face but the carnal mind is at enmity with God. You need Jesus so I appeal to your conscious and not your mind. You will be judged for your deeds on judgement day like the rest of us if you are not repenting and putting your faith in Jesus Christ. The wages of sin is death and he paid our sin debt for us on that cross so that we would believe and be saved.

God bless you sir or ma’am

6
Angerisagift 6 points ago +6 / -0

Christianity is not merely a Western religion. It’s actually Christianity that led to Christendom, Europe, and so much of civilization that transformed the world. Popularity is not a good measure of lasting importance but it’s absurd to even compare numbers of adherents if most are only practitioners out of fear of being deemed an apostate and harmed or killed.

0
randomusers239874 0 points ago +2 / -2

Culture is a reflection of genetics, not an overlay over it. If Christianity didn't exist, those things would still exist because they are manifestation of our nature, not just some cosmic happenstance. White people are naturally industrious, and kind, due to our evolution mostly occuring in regions where conflict with one's close neighbors, and being short sighted, would actually reduce your chance of survival. When food isn't available for 6 months out of the year, you evolve to be future thinking (save resources), kind to local neighbors (protect your saved resources), and violent toward distant ones (steal resources when needed), very quickly. Christianity is just a meme in that, out of the thousands of different philosophies and religions that existed, it aligned most with our genetic predisposition. The Messiah story is not unique; you coukd change out every character, story, make it polytheistic, or whatever, while keeping the core philosophy, and we would still have the world today.

2
Angerisagift 2 points ago +2 / -0

Quite false. Marxist and post Christian societies fail. There is more to live than genetics. Epigenetics. Environment. Socialization. The ethos. The values that unite and establish the nomos. You sound like someone into astrology convinced time of birth shapes destiny. Then you're perplexed when identical twins are not necessarily indistinguishable.

0
MoldyLocksNesMonste 0 points ago +1 / -1

And don't forget, as Christianity spread it destroyed all of the local spiritual practices and knowledge.

And replaced it with a book written in a language someone in, Denmark for example, could not read.

And consolidated power in Rome.

2
CommonSenseForYou 2 points ago +2 / -0

You could say that the western world is superior and part of that is because of Christianity so thus Christianity is at least a better religion for people to worship.

4
Colonel_Chestbridge 4 points ago +4 / -0

Same with abortion. You don’t need to be religious to know it makes no logical sense

-2
randomusers239874 -2 points ago +1 / -3

It makes sense until the fetus has a brain. Once it's able to "experience", it's no longer a clump of cells.

4
Angerisagift 4 points ago +4 / -0

So if you had surgery and were totally out under general anesthesia it would be fine to kill you? How about a deep sleep? How about if you’re drunk and it’s a drug you won’t even notice slipped in your Long Island Iced Tea?

You and I are human beings even when not experiencing things. We are human beings, not doings. Our existence should be respected.

1
randomusers239874 1 point ago +2 / -1

Your brain is actually experiencing things in those states, you just don't remember them. Your brain is always active, until you die, and even then activity can persist for a short period. It's pretty amazing how much overlap there is between liberals and conservatives, 99% don't know shit and yet have the audacity to form an opinion before doing any deeper research. A better question would be, if your brain was damaged so badly that there was no detectable activity, would it be fine to the let the body die? And the answer to that would be YES.

1
Angerisagift 1 point ago +1 / -0

You're conflating allowing natural events to transpire with the deliberate destruction of a human at the beginning of life.

2
Colonel_Chestbridge 2 points ago +2 / -0

It never was a “clump of cells”. That statement has no scientific basis whatsoever. It is a living organism.

How many days into pregnancy does it develop a brain? When I’d the cutoff point?

2
randomusers239874 2 points ago +2 / -0

Been a while since I took embryology, but IIRC it happens just a bit before the end of the first trimester. It doesn't produce coherent activity yet, but I'd concede that, even absent of coherent activity, it's not (yet) possible to say it isn't experiencing things, and thus would be a reasonable compromise on when to end the ability to have an abortion.

spez: Just because you assert that it has no scientific basis, doesn't mean it has no scientific basis. Do you think that a fetus hatches from an egg or something? You literally start out as a clump of cells that grows into more and more complex structures, creating a body. Scientists, even pro-life ones, will tell you we all start out as a clump of cells, no different than any cell on your body right now. It's only when those more complex structures form, specifically the brain, do you become something more than that. If you chopped off your arm and kept it alive, would that be a person? No, that's stupid, even though every single cell is capable of reproducing, and has an entire person's DNA. You are your brain, which is completely independent of your body. Technically, you don't even need a body, it would be entirely possible for your brain to be put in a robot, and you'd still be "you". Until a fetus has a brain, it's not a person.

2
Colonel_Chestbridge 2 points ago +2 / -0

There is no specific date. All fetuses develop differently. The only way for this to work is to actually measure the presence/absence of brain activity before every single abortion.

1
RoosterHeadBad 1 point ago +1 / -0

You mean, once it has a soul. Which, IMHO, is conception.

0
randomusers239874 0 points ago +1 / -1

So, if someone were to remove your brain, but kept your body alive, you think that your soul would still be attached to your body, but unable to actually do anything with it?

1
RoosterHeadBad 1 point ago +1 / -0

Yes. If I amputated my arm, will my soul follow my dead arm or my body? Same thing.

Honestly I used to think I was trans when I was a young teenager. I’m so fucking lucky that subreddits like r/egg_irl weren’t around back then because I would have been an easy grooming target. It makes me so sad seeing young people fall victim to this, I don’t think any of them have thought through the long term consequences. They all fucking idolize anime cat girls as their transition goals without realizing that 99% of them will never resemble anything close to that. It’s very tragic.

15
spelunking_librator 15 points ago +15 / -0

I use to think emo guys were hot. Then I grew up and now I like muscles and beards.

Its like they think theyll stay that teen look forever. But thats not how it works.

Its also an attraction thats subject to change when one gets older.

The girls that think fem boys are hot today, will be seeching for real men tomorrow. For those that used hormone blockers to fit in and be cool, itll be too late.

I also feel like the corporations and government is using this to sexualize kids all over again. First it was girls and todlers in tiaras. Now its fem boys that perpetually look 12. Its sick.

The majority of my music library is from the 70's. Yeah, they did a lot of drugs, had sex with underage groupies, but god damn it, the music is excellent.

3
FuckGovernment 3 points ago +3 / -0

I think I prefer the 60's. But 70's music is golden too.

4
FireannDireach 4 points ago +4 / -0

Lots of good 60's stuff, too. Hell, I listen to a lot of music, 50's, 40's, 30's, classical, jazz. And there was SOME good stuff in the 80's through the 2000's but most of it was schlock.

I remember being in high school, and going to the record store every week, and there'd be multiple new albums from good bands. Once me and my friends started driving, we'd hit the record store Friday afternoon, after school. $20, and I could walk out with 2 or 3 that are now considered classics. We'd make deals - you buy that album, and I'll get this one, and we'll make cassettes of them for each other. Or turning on the radio and hearing new music, not the same 60 songs played on rotation.

I think it’s sad and unnecessary, but most men in the US are circumcised so the conversation never really goes anywhere because people take any criticism of the practice personally, since chances are they’re either circumcised themselves or circumcised their kids. I mean, who wants to ponder the possibility that part of their dick was stolen for no real reason?

2
MoldyLocksNesMonste 2 points ago +3 / -1

I don't think people take criticism personally.

I think the conversation is not allowed to happen because powered interests want it to happen. Much like 2020 election fraud.

i didn't have my two boys circumcised. It's not without risk and seems unnecessary. Sure some people have to have it done later, rarely, but then some people have to have mastectomies, their tonsils out, their appendixes removed.

1
MoldyLocksNesMonste 1 point ago +2 / -1

Really highlights how much influence 1% of the population has.

1
Geocav 1 point ago +1 / -0

Firstly, it's all about the money, it's not done for free, doctors/hospitals charge around $1,800 for the five-minute procedure. Yes, opp's do happen with circumcision a lot more often than you know, from too deep of a cut to cutting the tip off altogether, cutting too low down the shaft. The old stories of how so and so had to get it done painfully as an adult are skewed too, there is no reason (other than a doctor going in for the $) to have it done as an adult, if there is ever an ongoing issue a doctor just has to make a slit to relieve any tension.

While my un-circed father was dopey enough to be conned into circing his sons, his son made sure that his sons were left as God made them, perfect ;)

My sister is a maternity nurse and has plenty of horror stories to tell about botched circs, most of them are hushed up, even the parents don't know and their pediatricians will fluff off any parental concerns too to protect themselves & the needed hospital association he's a part of and enjoys.

-3
Angerisagift -3 points ago +3 / -6

First, almost all circumcised guys still have pleasurable sex.

Second, it’s more hygienic and reduces the risk of contracting or spreading infectious diseases.

Third, it’s considered more attractive by most women and men.

Guys who get obsessed with this ring of skin tend to be neurotic bitches with issues. It’s one more thing to whine about to mom and dad and any girl who will listen.

I don’t think it should be universally required but this movement to forbid it is stupid. A small, but real number of uncircumcised guys will need it as adults and that’s not a good time. And I don’t mind some vague hypothetical decrease in sensation to have a cleaner, healthier, more attractive member women really like. Most women don’t like anteaters and most of them are not kept as clean.

1
RoosterHeadBad 1 point ago +1 / -0

Not to mention that circumcision reduces penile cancer dramatically.

I always wondered what other people thought of this.

As far as Christian values goes, the New Testament pretty much says "yea, you don't have to do that anymore" but never really specifies it as a bad thing (as opposed to the Old Testament which says "you need to cut that shit off yesterday").

Personally, I'm glad I was circumcised as a baby. Would hate to have to do it now.

4

Kids were so much thinner back then too. There was only one obese girl in my high school (in the 80s).

I'll stick with the 80s.

Yea, they forget that part.

We are in the future, cool.

But not THAT far in the future LOL

You see any flying or underwater cars? We got airships and water ships, but no cars yet! :P

Not far enough to be DNA modifying gender changes to human beings yet. All they do, is what South Park said, mutilate you and make you some half dolphin monstrosity.

Stop subsidizing soy and corn. Make the outdoors great again. How fucked up does a lifestyle have to be to keep these fat dough boys permanently prepubescent.

Then pay more for food and fuel. Also kill food stamps too then. Or, you know, fix the commodities markets that Jimmy Carter royally screwed up in 1978 with his useless embargo

The only reason the farm bill passes is because it has the foodstamps part and the only reason foodstamps passes is because of the farm bill.

Sadly as a 10's-20's teenager myself, I find this a shame that people want to mutilate their bodies before they are even adults. Even if they are adults it is disgusting!

90's was when goth was big. 00's was when hipsters were big. 10's was when fake nerds were big. 20's is probably going to be accurate.
