When someone has a stroke that affects the left side of their brain, they can perceive the world, but their ability to communicate gets scrambled. When a stroke damages the right hemisphere, they can communicate but they can't make sense of the world. That comes close to describing the symptoms of the ideological Left.
I know a guy who's pretty smart, well accomplished professionally, married, socially well adjusted.... but when it comes to politics, he's completely insane. It's impossible to have a rational discussion on the subject. It's not just that he disagrees with some ideas, he literally can not perceive things that don't align with his pre-programed views. Understanding this has changed the way I communicate with him.
You wouldn't get mad at a blind person for being unable to see, or at a stroke victim for being unable to understand. I no longer get frustrated when I talk to my friend. Since I've adopted this new attitude, I'm far more compassionate with him because I realize he's got a type of disorder that's beyond his ability to control.
