People who enjoy their jobs do not drink at work. She needs to get day drunk before and during work just to make her days bearable. That is what someone does when they have confidence in their position, but they also know they are a fraud and have nothing to lose.

Nancy knows she has everything riding on a house of cards and the whole thing could blow down any day and she will probably end up in jail for the rest of her life if not executed for treason by a judges order.
