I’m about a month from being an RN. I was not allowed to work in the women’s clinic, see any female patients when at the VA, go to clinicals at the center that handles rape cases, and on 3 separate occasions have been taken off the care team because they didn’t want a male nurse to take care of the patient. We are 100% discriminated against. As if when I’m wiping the shit from an incapacitated woman’s, in secretly getting turned on or something. Insane. I’m also the president of the American Association for Men in Nursing at my school. Our focus is on “diversity in nursing.” What I get from above has more to do with “diversity” than men in nursing. Whatever, looks good on my resume and I’m stepping down this month. This is why my love is in pediatrics, but sadly, I need adult ICU to be a CRNA because then I can knock down close to $200k a year and not give a fuck about any of that. It’s all about money at this point. I work to live, not the other way around.

Just some advice from a guy in his forties knocking down 250k.... My plan in my youth was the same as yours... All about the money. It's not long-term sustainable. I think I would be happier making less money as a history teacher. Make the money for a while, bit have a plan to transition to doing something you love as your second career
