The concept itself has become outdated as it no longer represents the current political or economic state of the world and historically poor countries have transited different income levels.

Wet markets is a vague descriptor. Japan has wet markets. They're not third world. It's more of an Asian/Middle East thing. It's a culture difference. It's how the wet markets are handled that makes a difference.
