A few years back I was given some old 1950's era $20, $50 and $100 bills. They looked so fake so I took them in to the bank to ask them if they were real. They couldn't determine if they were so I said I wanted them back so I could take them to coin colletor's shop so he could look at them. I was told no, that they were confiscating them and I was advised they would be sent to the Secret Service for determination if they were real or not. I was also advised at that time that I would be arrested and charged if they were indeed counterfeit. If they were deemed real, they would just credit my account,
So they took the bills and filled out some paperwork and I was out $500!
A few months later I get a call from the bank manager to let me know the bills were indeed real and they would be crediting my account $500. The bills would not be rerturned to me and they were going to be destroyed. I could have sold them to a coin dealer or kept them and put them in a frame for display for a great story.
I guess you learned your lesson that day. Never turn your property over to the government, and keeps things off the book as much as possible. Once they know what you have, they will try and track it and/or take it.

He wasn't expecting the bank was "the government." This is scary!
Everything that requires SSN is the government. 🤷♂️
