This is illogical. A violent response is literally the only thing they have left to worry about and is the last thing they want. They’re getting bolder and accelerating their agenda precisely because they’ve stopped believing any significant violent pushback is coming. If no violent response is ever coming then they have no need to justify cracking down on rights, they can just do it.
The threat of 2A kept them somewhat in check before, but they called that bluff when they brazenly stole an election and nothing happened.
