For this, they weren't killed for questionng the crown. Is it a surprise that today we get more facts from comedians? Nothing has changed. News channels boast about being "trusted" and "factual", while being neither. If it's a fact, then speak it and people will know. If you have to explicitly say that it's a fact and trustworthy, then likely it isn't.

Comedy deserves a lot of respect.
Its place in protecting free speech is second only to The Second.
The Second protects the First.
That's backwards. IMO.
There's a reason our founders placed them in that order.
The 1st protects the 2nd and all the others.
No you’re wrong. Remove our right to bear and and freedom of speech is at the whims of those in power.
You're right, our founders were idiots.
Derp.
I agree with your point, but not sure you're saying it as clearly as possible...
Both are fundamental human rights. In that regard, it's silly to argue which one is "more important".
However, speech should be used to resolve every dispute, until the bad guys make that impossible.
In that respect, the second is a "backup" to the first...
But they all protect one another.
And, when it comes time for the second, it's because the first hasn't worked. At that point, it is sensible to argue that the second is more important...
Let's just agree that we shouldn't tolerate either of them being infringed.
No. The First Amendment is the 'most important' but by itself it's toothless without the Second Amendment to back it up.
Kind of hard to speak your mind when the government just kills you cause you can't protect your own right to speak.
There's a reason the 1st was 1st.
We have unconstitutional gun control right now. And we can talk our way back to restoring those rights.
Our founders were very wise.
Hopefully, else we'll have to exercise the 2nd to fix things and that's when it gets messy.
Yeah, even if everyone is heavily armed, it's moot when you're not allowed to speak to defend your perspective. Everyone being armed is a bad thing, without the ability to argue your perspective.
Imagine if we were all armed, but, disagreeing with the Leftwaffe was illegal and children were required to accept and promote left wing hate.
Bullshit. Which guns laws have been reversed? It only get more restricted the more rights you give up. Go shill elsewhere.
Not all comedians have to be on point for this to work...
Why do you think we love memes here?
As long as we have a Stephen Crowder, a Ricky Gervais, a Dave Chappelle, and others like them, they're doing the job.
They don't even have to understand how effed up the system has actually become...
They just have to keep pushing back against those who would put boundaries on their speech.
I don't watch any "late night comedy" but I'm willing to bet they're not making any jokes about Biden... am I wrong?
You're confusing "corporate propaganda that tries to make you laugh" with "comedy".
It's understandable. That's what they were going for.
Haha yeah that's why I put it in quotes but you get the idea.
The jester served three purposes. One being the obvious role of adding levity to tense situations before and after. The other two roles were a bit more subtle in that the jester was, as mentioned, the only position in the land who could mock the king to his face and get laughter back, the jester keeps the king humble and reminds him that under the robes he's just another human.
The third role most important: the jester is the canary in the coal mine. When the jester dies its time to get out of dodge.
What do we do when he's on the sidelines in a cast?
Depends on what you call "comedian". There's a lot of unfunny people on late night right now.
That's the theory. The only real source for that is romanticised fiction though.
Unfortunately in practice a Court Jester who picked the wrong time, or joke, often ended up feeling the full force of their Master's wrath.
For instance look up Nicolas Ferrial, also known as Le Févrial or Triboulet. He narrowly avoided death sentences from both Louis XII and Francis I and was eventually exiled.
And to be honest ... what passes for comedy these days is pretty anemic except for the rare gem like Ricky Gervais and independent comics who don't give a fuck.
court jesters also rode into battle with their kings and would deliver messages to the enemy for them. A lot of times this led to the jesters death by beheading or hilariously by being catapulted back to their king. So they were a little more respectable than comedians today.
Can we mock Kangs still?
The ones who refuse to believe Cleopatra was greek?
John Stewart contradicts your point. That fuck spread propaganda under the guise of comedy. “Hey I’m just a comedian? Don’t take me seriously “. Meanwhile he’s making slanted commentary on real issues to favor leftists.
