Seen some concerns over a few things today. First, bit late but the lack of thumbnails for a few hours earlier was because we blew threw our agreed bandwidth limit for the proxies that we use for generating thumbnail images.
Normally when the thumbnail generator breaks (it hasn't in a while), we turn it back on, and the posts which were made when the thumbnail generator was offline will be processed retroactively.
In this case, the generator was never offline. It was still processing all new posts and setting their thumbnails to a blank (but processed) value.
We could have sent those posts back through to be regenerated, but we didn't.
The second concern is about how I am no longer on the mod list for The Donald (Patriots).
I am simply focusing on our wider mission to build Win into a social media platform to truly rival big tech. There's no meaningful change with regards to the mod list.
How is this website paid for?
Up until about a month ago it was all out-of-pocket by the mods. Then they started accepting anonymous donations as the site grows beyond their budget.
Basically we fund it ourselves.
What gets me is why everybody always acts like that’s so important, but I bet you don’t know who pays for any of the other internet services you use either. It only seems to be a going concern when it comes to this community.
Every other platform has overt advertising...
I kept wondering about funding and how I could contribute. It seems like running this site would be a huge financial burden for the mods. I like that their accepting funds, but I would hope there’s some transparency in usage. I think an FAQ page explaining some of these questions would be great for membership. Especially relative newcomers like me.

This question is asked in every thread a mod posts. It’s been answered a thousand times before.
Wait. That answer changed. I'm not sure exactly when, but since the election. They do now accept donations, as running all the various communities is a bigger deal than just one like we used to be.
Mexico is paying for it. :D
