This is sort of my sister in law. They have their daughter in private school (excellent choice btw) that has been open this entire school year. It’s open because the parents (ie the paying customers) were so pissed about it shutting down last April that the school basically didn’t have a choice.
But she goes to work and gets shamed by her coworkers for using her “white privilege” to secure her daughter a better education experience. She helped her workplace organize BLM support last year.
She was absolutely wracked with guilt, until her mom and mine both spent a few months talking sense into her. But she’s also one of these “if it only saves only life!” Covidians, so I think the discomfort over her hypocrisy is a healthy exercise for her.
Homeschooling is the way forward. People send their children to indoctrination camps for 12+ years and then wonder why their children become crazy leftists. Stop abandoning your responsibilities to someone who does not share your values.
Homeschooling is yet another example of something those "horrible boomers" paved the way for. When we started homeschooling our children 25+ years ago, it was still illegal in several states and we didn't know of any other family who was doing it.
I wouldn't associate sacrificing for their children with the majority of boomers but there were definitely some good boomers who did right by their children. The up side is the huge number of parents and children who have figured out that they actually don't need to use their local public schools. A single mom friend of mine took her second-grade daughter out of her public elementary school, due to a combination of the on-again-off-again in-person attendance schedule and the annoying mask mandate. Grandmother watches the kids (2 not old enough for school yet) while mom works, and the second-grader happily says "I'm homeschooling now!" I think she may be using state-provided materials, but the amount of time spent, and who the girl associates with is under family control, and the content is getting much more family attention than when the girl was attending the school in person. If they decide to stick with homeschooling (as I expect a significant percentage of families will), they'll probably progress to investigating non-state curriculum options.
I don’t buy this, schools are a joke. I have extraordinary doubts that the government does a better job of Child rearing than parents do.
Maybe some parents are realizing that their kids have problems now that they actually spend time with their kids.
Maybe some of these kids are getting help that they should’ve had years ago when no one paid attention to them or gave a shit.

With all of those sacrifices, we are able to go down to just my income. She stays home and homeschools our kids with the help of abeka.

I personally know a teacher who quit his job because his school was requiring him to come back in person to teach.
He sends his kids to school in person at the school in our neighborhood.

I just worked with a kid who became suicidal and was hospitalized. The school shutdown and isolation was a major contributing factor.
