Honestly, people are more industrious than people think. People wondered how people hunted mammoths. Well it's pretty easy to lure a large animal into a covered pit. Same can be done with deer. Dig giant lines of pits across a field and just wait for animals to walk into them or scare animals to run toward them, and it becomes pretty easy to gather food rather quickly, even without doing anything but sitting and waiting. After a day, you'll end up with a bunch of critters in those pits without even trying. Would be especially useful at a choke point of some sort that all wild life would have to go through if they want to run away from the general area. Create loud sounds from a long distance and anything between you and the pit that would run away, would result in something caught.
