That's been a common tactic of the left. Imagine people thinking the old Colbert Show was legitimizing conservative beliefs. I'm all for fighting fire with fire. The right has always lacked a creative, sarcastic, and mocking tone compared to the left. I think that really changed in 2016 with a lot of people checking out of The Cathedral and taking their tools of rhetoric with them.
That said, I have made jokes about us reaching a singularity where the minute one of us comes up with an issue to mock, they will take up with a passion. Then the goal becomes to make things so miserable that the system collapses and the pedulum swings back hard.
