When people asked what they could do in the wake of 9/11, the attitude in the Bush admin was very 21st Century:
"Go Shopping"
One other old fart memory: In the 90s, Lefties were desperately clinging to things like "Communitarianism" after their beloved USSR had failed to materialize and while their beloved Weathermen were still serving their prison sentences.
You could literally feel the fresh wind in their backs and the light in their eyes after 9/11, when they started to realize they could play the whole neocolonialist card again.
One final old fart memory: Almost every rock concert from the 90s going into the 2000s had a table or somebody wearing a Free Tibet shirt. Sometime around the end of the Bush era, "Free Tibet" all but disappeared, replaced with "As a Half-Inuit Lesbian of Color..." crap.
