They used to burn people alive for supposedly attempting magic spells. They had no evidence of magic and believed they didn’t need it because <insert authority> already proved the person a witch.
They used to do human sacrifices. Can you imagine seeing that shit? There’s no way every citizen believed they were satisfying gods this way.
Galileo was imprisoned for suggesting the earth is not the center of the universe.
JFK was assassinated for opposing the rogue government and other presidents have only hinted at its threat and existence ever since.
Consent to be governed and the actions of the government have always been a struggle, really an exercise, by the rich to redline a productive populace with a convincing narrative. If burning some women, imprisoning scientists, assassinating leaders, mask mandates, or manipulating an election is beneficial to the interests of the powerful then it will be done.
These people are not Gods but their power as compared to regular people is as close to absolute as can be - They dream of luxuries and heights never realized because they can get everything else. They plan the next ways to change particular countries for their kids to benefit from. They spread ideas of magic and human sacrifice. They imprison the scientists, order the assassinations, bring mask mandates and pandemics, manipulate elections, and propagate the invention white privilege.
They have always been there to do it and there have always been people calling out the bullshit.
