My husband and I had a strong desire to have a family, but we also knew (at that time) that a kid up for adoption would most likely go to a straight couple, and that would be an easier life for that kid, so we never adopted. We became the best possible uncles for our nieces and nephews. I would bet that we would agree with most every other conservative issue.

Preservation of a family unit is but one aspect of conservatism, and we can agree to work to uphold that principle while dealing with our own shit. Just because some people don't have the traditional family themselves doesn't mean they are trying to undermine the institution and doesn't mean they can't work to assist in preserving the right to maintain it.
A mother and father in the home is the most ideal situation, but as long as there are kids who can't get that, there is going to be a need for two parent households that are safe, and many of those households are conservative and value raising children who will be able to recognize the need for traditional two parent households.
