This was the worst looking police force death in history, and even it turned out to be completely authorized, legitimate, and innocent once the facts came in. Literally every single time a black gets killed by a cop, from now until the end of time, I am not going to get bent out of shape. It turns out to be proper use of force. Every. Fucking. Time.
That's where I've been for some time. I'm all for seeing police face the consequences of their actions when they do the wrong thing. The issue is it seems like 99% of the time when people say the police did the wrong thing, those people are wrong. That isn't to say that the police couldn't do the wrong thing in the future, but I almost immediately assume that the police didn't do anything wrong just because of how often it happens.
For the George Floyd incident I found out by having someone ask if if I saw the videos of those police officers killing that guy, and my immediate reaction was to roll my eyes. After I watched the video, I said to them that yeah, it looks bad, but I want to know the details before I make any judgements. And in the immediate aftermath I pointed out that the officers were fired and charged before any review had been conducted, which is not in line with standard procedure, which means they're being railroaded for political purposes. All of that was before any other evidence was available. As soon as I saw the bodycam footage I knew I was right.
Also, today I just found the bodycam footage of George Floyds 2019 arrest which was submitted into evidence in the case, and it's super telling. In that video Floyd is uncooperative, belligerent, and tries to swallow drugs when the police approach the vehicle. It shows a clear pattern of behavior. Floyd did the same thing in 2020, but this time he got the drugs down before the cops stopped him, and it cost him his life.
