I know stealing is wrong. Resisting arrest is asking to be restrained. The question we should ask; is there a more humane or effective way to subdue or restrain a suspect other than a knee or boot on the neck? Possibly yes. Possibly no.
You ask a legitimate question. However, there is no answer that will satisfy the left. Ten years ago, they rallied against police use of tasers, and this policy only forced the police to use guns more often. With every possible method of intervention, there will be a percentage of incidents involving serious injury or death, and these anecdotal incidents will be used to further restrict the police's ability to do their jobs.
When a suspect resists arrest, a lot of the injuries are self-inflicted, in a way, because of the increased force the officer needs to apply to control the suspect. Don't want to get injured by the police? Stop committing crimes, and stop resisting arrest!
