Fuck 'em.

When I called Chase about an issue with my account, I entered the byzantine world of a too-big-to-fail bank IVR system. I waited over 30 minutes just to get through and be told that they had to transfer me to another department. Another wait of 15 minutes. (Why not record the customer's phone number and call them back when a rep is available? I guess that would cost too much money.) Then, when I finally get the right live person on the line, she has the nerve to tell me they are recording the call - but when I told them I was also recording the call, they say that's not allowed.

This is not customer service - it's customer disservice. It's abuse.

Seek out a credit union. They’re far better institutions than banks.

I'm not too familiar with bank services, but can someone give me examples of how credit unions are better?

Sure. Credit unions are typically owned by their members. By having a checking and savings account you are an owner of the company and receive dividends just like owning a dividend paying stock. Credit unions are private institutions— not publicly traded— which allows for members to receive the dividend and not some stock holder or fund manager. CU’s also have higher interest rates on savings and CD’s (although I’d stay away from CD as I believe inflation is gonna hit hard). They’re easier to work with, have better customer service, and mine even waives atm fees at other credit union atms. Want a new car? Better interest rate at a credit union. Ditto for homes, personal loans, credit cards, you name it. It’s a better business model, in my opinion, and you’re not supporting big banking institutions who help launder money for human trafficking and drug dealers. Those are just some of the benefits.
