Oh no! They can see everyone's public posts! These hackers must feel so L33T. What about their ssn, drivers license, phone numbers, real names, etc? Oh wait, Gab doesnt ask for any of those.

Aren't those documents what they are calling verification documents?

Probably, KYC does more harm than good as expected.

They hacked public posts. What's the big deal?

Hacks? They keep using that word, I don't think it means what they think it means.

Writing a script to collect public posts is not a hack. Jumping on a discord server and logging the chat transcript is not a hack.

They do not have any password info, they claim they do, not a shred of evidence that it ever happened.

This is all a LARP Torba knows it and that is why he is not really worried about it.

I have not looked into these mosaics. Still could be a LARP, not hard to get a few hundred people to verify then send the pics to be made into a mosaic for 'proof'.

The ransom was also posted by the official @gab account and several other big name members.

They are posting from the Gab official account, Project Veritas account, and have made collages of the drivers licenses sent in by pro users to verify.

Torba did say they were hacked, he was up front about demonic tranny hackers.

To be clear, these "hackers" are pretty stupid posting about blackmailing a site owner. If there is anyone in the feds who wants an easy case they got it right there, but maybe they work with the feds.

Really wouldnt surprise me at this point

Lol feds won't do shit, they didn't do shit about solar winds hack, they won't do shit about Gab.

The 'hackers' likely had state sponsored help from China.

Just goes to show, alt tech just can't quite attract the right talent to secure shit.

Verification by stored drivers licenses is the stupidest idea of all time.

Want to not be Twitter? Don't use stupid verification ideas that Twitter does.

How about let users verify themselves to their audiences?

Used to just be a picture of them holding up their username written on paper

No, this wasn't stuxnet level of hacking, this was a programming 101 error that Torba and his team made. There are tools available to scan for such a simple, yet devastating flaw and clearly they weren't used.

Hell, even Mastadon, which GAB is based off have said that GAB haven't even been applying Mastadon security patches to their code base. What did Torba think? He can run his site forever on the internet unpatched?
