We are a republic for a reason. The founders were correct to see voting as a limited tool. The calls for direct democracy are always from people who have no historical understanding of why democracy is a disaster. A democracy becomes authoritarianism as soon as 50%+1 realize they can vote for anything. The Soviet Union was a democracy - and it voted out opposition parties.

Any American should be able to pass a basic civics test just through osmosis but there's about 15-25% of the country who can't even list the amount of amendments in the Bill of Rights. No wonder Democrats get away with gun control.
