I used to train guys in the field.

We would do random site inspections.

You could literally tell how the trainees were doing from what the inside Of their shelter looked like. If their shelter was a mess so we’re they - it was a simple reflection of their own internal environment and a embodiment of how hey solved problems.

Guess who would rather piss in their own water bottle than get up and get dressed In the snow? Dignity is a value and you cannot gain it via donations.

BECAUSE THEY DON’T WORK FOR WHAT THEY HAVE. The government pays everything for them so why do they care what it looks like. The harder you work and make sacrifices for something, the more you respect it and take care of it. The cycle continues generation after generation.

I think the answer to that question is the same answer to the question of why they're poor to begin with. They live in shit, because in a lot of cases, they're just shit people.

I know there are many exceptions, so don't get me wrong. I personally know poor people who keep an impeccable house, and I respect that. But those peoples' properties wouldn't be the ones buried in trash.

They don't care because they don't have work or moral ethics. You can always, tell if it is a respectable town, or area when it is clean. It makes me angry too. No pride or anything.

I just take it they don’t give a shit about themselves anymore due to not having anything going on their lives. Can’t have pride in things externally when you’re lacking self respect and a sense of self worth internally

I was told to be less white - you mean I should go back to throwing trash in the can instead of on the street? A city that lets the mentally ill roam and crap on the ground like farm animals deserves more trash. I hope the whole rotten system implodes.

I grew up in just such a place. The dirty squalor is only there because the people living there do not clean up.

Lord have mercy? I’m on a roll. Do get me started on this. MY BIGGEST PET PEEVE. I live in the Mountains of Tennessee with some of the most beautiful views you’ll ever see but these ignorant people just throw their trash out on the road. It’s nothing to see a couch, commode or washer. Drives me mad! I literally could pick up a trash bag of trash by my house every week...and I do.

Lack of private ownership. But also addiction and other issues of people not taking any responsibility.

In poor areas, nobody living there owns the land or property so it's never their "responsibility" to clean it up. Also, the police don't care to enforce littering laws there because it's too big an issue. And otherwise, people have no concern for their community and generally moreso a disdain for the property owners. They really just don't realize that in trying to fuck over the property owners, they are just fucking over themselves.

Because they just don't give a fuck.

Here is the psychology: if it is already a mess, your little effort won't change anything, so you don't make that little effort. If it is already clean, you might make that little effort.

There need to be Fix It Days, maybe once a month, where everybody cleans up and fixes and paints whatever. For that you need a committee of large men.

Because here in the Portland metro area those items apparently provide great conversation.

People who litter should be shot. Might be extreme but hey, I'm a SUPER environmentalist.

Most homeless people living in tent cities are drug addicts, at least that's the case here in Seattle.

Your problem here is assuming all people are like you. They are not.

Because they don't give a shit. I live near a Section 8 trailer park. The roads within miles are LITTERED with trash everywhere. They just toss their garbage everywhere because they have no pride in ownership or their community or anything.
