Imagine spending 20 months doing something that's impossible. You can't get rid of vocabulary. Words don't magically disappear. The fact that you had to actively work to stop yourself from using the word, on the other hand... yikes.

Also if the word were really all that bad, it wouldn't be used more universally than "dude" by the very people who claim it's such a taboo. At least most women have the decency to not call each other cunts while claiming to be disgusted by the word cunt.
