Pretty much every major hire Trump made was a misstep. I'll cut him so slack on the cabinet confirmed positions because he had to get the RINOs on board or end up using a career employee (95% of being a hardcore Democrat).
I think his biggest mistake was not hiring people where he could from completely outside government and corporate America. He campaigned on being an outsider, but he pretty much never tried to hire other outsiders.
I told my wife in 2016 that Trump was going to struggle. He's worked his entire life in his own company surrounded by people who want to succeed and to make the company succeed. That's the polar opposite of what you find in government. Government workers think that working hard will just mean you get more work. And government leaders know they won't be there more than a few years so they use that time to enrich themselves. There's no way he was prepared for the ineptitude and conniving schemers that populate our government.

I think Trump expects people to give their all because he always gives his all, unfortunately most people never give their all. Sad reality.
