I just gotta point out that Christianity wasn't around when the Carthaginians were a major power in the Mediterranean, nor during the time of the Republic.
Christianity didn't become Rome's major religion until around 380 AD, so I think the pagans they were dealing with were more of the eastern steppe tribe pagans and the Germanic pagans across the Rhine.
