Every dog that I’ve ever known to attack someone had owners that were neurotic. I was attacked by my neighbors dog pretty severely. The neighbor is a nervous, cautious recluse. I approached him to to say hello and was attacked. If you haven’t been bitten by a dog try to avoid it, fucking hurts like hell.
I had a Shepherd go for my throat when his owner was introducing him to me (40 years ago.) Slipped off his collar and lunged. I will never get that image out of my head and I'm not a big dog fan to this day. It's an awful feeling.
Geez that’s scary. Mine was a black lab. Got me on the shoulder the elbow and palm. I punched him in the neck 2 or 3 times for each bite. He eventually let go. I went into shock but was able to pull myself out of it and drive to the emergency room
You should never approach or reach for a dog you don’t know, and you should have asked the owner if it was ok... I tell others my dog is not friendly if they approach
Hmm, well I was in my own yard behind my own fence and the dog was leashed in the street when he pulled out of the owners hand ran into my yard and jumped onto my shoulder. I had also interacted with the dog on many occasions previously, I mean the guy lives next door. Pretty sure I didn’t cause the attack.
Those details seem reasonable, I have a high prey drive dog, I have to constantly tell others, my neighbors think it’s ok to let their little dogs run free and don’t lease, you sound like you were in the right, very odd behavior of the dog especially since you are neighbors and have had interaction
I’m a dog person, so would rarely blame a dog. It’s the owner. He is a high anxiety, reclusive guy. Probably super shy in his youth, not a people person. He had imprinted this on the dog and as any dog owner knows they are highly in tune to our emotional state. Im guessing he was nervous about something and when he saw me in the front yard transmitted that to the dog who then viewed me as a threat. It happened so suddenly he pulled the leash out of his owners hand and just attacked. By the time I threw my last blow the owner had run into the yard, grabbed the collar and pulled him back. He was still standing up against the collar and jumping at me as he was dragged from the yard. Let me tell you it hurt like hell and I was permanently scared on my shoulder, elbow and hand. That arm was pretty useless for over a month from the damage, bruising etc. It kinda sucked.

Omg. Did you find the owner? I think I moved at Superman speed to get away from my assailant! That part is a blur. But I won't forget those teeth.
