The first one could have lead into better things but Johnson ruined it all when it was his turn. First one was all setup and pitch with Johnson not only striking out on the second one but lighting the stadium on fire. His one of the most overrated film makers today.
Rian Johnson completely ruined the character of Luke Skywalker. In Return of the Jedi, Luke never lost faith that Darth Vader could be redeemed even though Obi-Wan and Yoda thought it to be impossible. Luke ended up being right.
Then in the Last Jedi we find out that Luke was going to murder his own nephew because he had a dream that Ben Solo would turn to the dark side. WTF?!
You could easily write stories full of racially and sexually diverse characters and have it be good. With what Hollywood’s trying for over the last several years, however, there’s been no attempt to do that, just inserting bullshit into narratives and ruining past characters. There’s no attempt to make plausible and sound characters anymore. They fucking opened Last Jedi with Luke having done a complete 180 and no longer being Luke. He’s supposed to be the White Knight, the angelic counter to Darth Vader. They turned him into a cranky old hermit.
All the other media around it usually get it right, even Mando got it right recently. Luke’s basically Jesus, an ascended human. There’s always a reverence and aura about him after he completes his journey. None of that was in Last Jedi. It was like nobody bothered to read or watch any of the other films when writing it.
