If Dave Filoni is writing or directing it could be good because he truly loves the Star Wars Universe (George Lucas even once called Filoni "my Padawan") and wants to tell good stories set in it. Filoni did a good job with Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels, and the Mandalorian.
The sequel trilogy, on the other hand, was made by J.J. Abrams (who knows how to evoke nostalgia but sucks when it comes to original ideas) and Rian Johnson (a hipster douchebag who wanted to "subvert expectations").
The first one could have lead into better things but Johnson ruined it all when it was his turn. First one was all setup and pitch with Johnson not only striking out on the second one but lighting the stadium on fire. His one of the most overrated film makers today.
I thought that at first, but then I realized that even Episode 7 had major problems for a star wars movie.
In hindsight the moment the sequel trilogy died, for me at least, was when they showed Star Killer Base. It made absolutely no logical sense (this would have been the equivalent of ISIS having the means to produce nukes on their own in 2014).
Ever since the sale to Disney ruined the storylines.
