I've thought about this as well and I think Joe Biden himself has ok'd it. I've seen a family member slip from dementia into full-blown alzheimer's. He's been going downhill for more than a year now. I would bet he's on the very cusp of full alzheimer's. You still have lucid moments which is why they let him out every once in a great while.
He knows what's coming and it's horrifying. Why wouldn't you agree to be a "martyr" and go out as the president with the "most votes in history?" I sure as hell would take that over gradually losing my mind and having to be alive as an empty shell of my former self.
Alzheimer's is just one type of dementia. It progresses from very a mild stage through to a very advanced and ultimately fatal stage, just like every other type of dementia.
