The field used to be much more difficult, but great people have made things much easier, which attracts a horde.

WebDev and the "framework revolution", coupled with HR heavy businesses. I think the liberalism is mostly a false consensus, but it's still about 50/50.

I've never seen the term "Framework Revolution" and it still doesn't look like a generally in-use term, but damn if that doesn't explain exactly what has happened to software development over the past 15 years and why its become so miserable.
