Yes. Even my nearby city of about 20k now has a blue mayor. Forced the removal of our last confederate statue because it was a "threat to public safety". I'm so glad I live right outside of city limits. I will never live in the city if I can help it. Double taxes, idiotic trash pickup and garbage separation rules, paying for city sewer and water runoff...
I have always said that most cities need to be disbanded and reverted back to unincorporated status. Screw them.
Go for the small towns and don't vote in big city policies when they come up.
If you focus on yourself or your (future) family, you won't need to worry about things to do in the city. Your time will be occupied. You're best off, I think, homesteading as much as possible. Animal husbandry, start a garden. Be as independent and self sustaining as possible.
This is coming from a guy that operates a small IT business that works with computers all day long. Used to be a liberal freak years ago until I, thankfully, opened my eyes and did a 180.
