To best understand where we're going after this life, it helps to know why we're here, and where we came from. God is the father of our spirits, we are literally His children. He wants us to have the joy and glory He has. So He came up with a perfect plan for us to get a physical body (on this earth) and return to live with him (through Jesus Christ). The fact that you are here means you agreed to God's plan, not everybody did (1/3 of the hosts of heaven followed Satan). During our mortal lives we make choices regarding good and evil. God rewards us according to our works and desires. Because God rewards everyone according to their desires and their deeds done on earth, there are different kingdoms of glory to which we may be assigned after the Judgment. (1 Corinthians 15:40-42)
