My analogy was to simply illustrate that sure, the driver of the black truck may not have killed anyone, but had the police not taken the actions that they did. The likelihood of an innocent bystander being injured/killed grows exponentially with each passing second.
Additionally, once the police attempted to make the traffic stop and the man fled. The police can only assume the man is fleeing for a more serious reason then "he didn't want a ticket."
Simply letting the guy go would be like waking up in the middle of the night because you heard a noise, going to your living room to see someone unhooking your TV and saying, "eh, fuck it, I'm going back to bed."

The premise that the police making a call, right or wrong, when the truck driver was obviously subjecting the public to risk of imminent death from his reckless stupidity, is "totalitarian" is ridiculous and asinine. It's as stupid as pretending that George Floyd was being oppressed when he's caught perpetrating and then resists arrest. Do we have laws? Yes. Should we enforce them, equally? Yes. That about covers it. If someone thinks police always have, or possibly could have, perfect technique, they should watch Olympic ice skaters and then imagine how well they'd perform if there was another ice skater on the ice trying to keep them from doing maneuver X. I don't give a shit that the truck driver was white, and I seriously doubt the police did either. Pretty sure they were focused on the 109mph, 6,000lb missile that the imbecile was pointing at innocents. Everybody who thinks they know better what the police should have done in that moment is probably an ignorant poser, and if they say police should just let anyone go who tries to get away, then they don't understand the role of incentives in societal interaction.
Exactly, if the police just gave up chase when people tried to flee due to potential public safety risks. Then you would see a lot more people trying to evade the police because you've effectively normalized the behavior. Example, changing lanes or turning without a blinker is illegal but it's rare that you get pulled over for it so you see lots of people doing it without a second thought. (For the record, I try to always use my blinker because I hate it when other people don't.)
