It's not healthy nor sustainable--even Arnie is now reduced to Dad Bod. Body sculpting is not the same as lifting for health or actual athletic capacity. But I do have to appreciate it, it does make me really marvel at the human body.
You may be on to something in that people mistake this kind of appreciation for attraction--the number one reason most people hit the gym is to look hot. If you need physical strength for work or something you tend to build it up doing that job. It's not fashionable to be honest so when signing up everyone says it's "to be healthy" but they're hoping good looks follow health (and in general that's true enough to work). If most people could look hot the rest of their lives but had to die 10 years earlier or if they could double their caloric output for every task (thus vastly reducing their athletic efficiency), they'd GLADLY take it. People wanna be attractive.
I also like looking at those muscle diagrams in science books and such, however. I was a completely average, non-stellar student in biology and chemistry but I own a copy of Grey's Anatomy because the entire human system is just really neat. I say all this to underscore that my appreciation is not one of attraction... and most people who are working out to get cut want to be seen as attractive, so I think that difference would be important to them.
Is that a man that thinks it's a woman or a woman that thinks it's a man? I genuinely can't tell.
