My dad started paying cash at the grocery store after a charge he didn't make turned up on a card he only used there.
Tonight the total was $225.12. The clerk is a girl maybe high school or college age, I'm not a good judge but I don't think she could buy beer yet. White, dark hair.
So my dad gives her four fifties, a twenty, a five, a dime and two pennies, exact change.
She counted the bills like four, five times then hands them back to my dad who has to count them out for her. Then she counted the CHANGE like three times in her hand.
I mean she looked normal enough, no special needs or anything, but if you can't count money easily perhaps running a cash register is not the job for you. The bills were bad enough but you need to use your finger and count in your head for 12 cents?
I have to wonder what would happen if he'd needed change back.
My nephew is 8 and learning his times tables. I showed him how to do the 9s by using his fingers and he still couldn’t figure it out. He’s usually a bright kid but I literally showed him the easiest way to figure them out and he wasn’t grasping the concept. I blame common core math taught by idiot teachers. He also draws boxes when doing math problems, I had to show him that it was way easier to just write it out longways. It’s like the teachers want these kids to fail at math. Sorry for the rant but yeah kids are being held back by bad teaching practices and it pisses me off!
Of course they want them to fail at math. The last thing they want is to make a populace that's capable of thinking logically, and Algebra is "baby's first logic course"
Yep this right here. That’s also why they are not teaching cursive anymore, can’t have kids reading the constitution can we?
