The real tragedy is that I have lost some good friends I grew up with over these race politics.
One of my best friends growing up was black, but we've really grown apart because he's bought into this race division despite having a very privileged childhood.
The other day he went surfing for sympathy points on Facebook saying that he felt "unsafe" going out after dark in the town he grew up in. White girls we all went to high school with showered him with platitudes.
I pressed him because I knew he was full of shit and what he meant he was paranoid about smoking weed in a public park after 10 o'clock...something he would have gotten in trouble for as a teenager.
He said I wasn't being a good "ally" and we haven't spoken since.
